Classes & Groups

Woodlawn Community Fellwoship offers a variety of classes and groups for memebrs and guests to explore their spirituality, deepen their Christian faith, and come together in fellowship with one another.

In addition to weekly groups, we also offer short-term Bible and topical studies throughout the year. Check out our current offerings below.

Wednesday Discussion Group

Start your Wednesday off focused on faith! Every Wednesday at 7 am, dive into the Bible and discuss how it is relevant in our lives today. We meet downstairs and everyone is welcome.

Sunday Lent Bible Study

Join Randy Hopper for a short-term adult study as we explore The Final Days: A Lenten Journey Through the Gospels by Matt Rawle. During our six weeks together, we’ll examine how the four New Testament Gospels aren’t the same story, but they offer the same Resurrection hope. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John devote most of their story detailing Jesus’ last week in Jerusalem, all highlighting Jesus’ triumphant entry into the city, the suffering and humiliation of the cross, and the empty tomb come Sunday morning, but the stories they tell aren’t quite the same.

Each Gospel offers a different lens through which we understand Jesus’ Passion. One portrait reveals Jesus to be in control, while another emphasizes his suffering. In one story Jesus offers hope to the thief on the cross, and in another Jesus only receives derision. These different perspectives aren’t a reason to dismiss the Gospels; rather they reveal an abundant, diverse, and complementary picture of God’s work in the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

Books may be purchased from Randy on Sunday mornings ($14, checks payable to WCF), or you can purchase a digital copy on Kindle or at Cokesbury.com. If you cannot afford a book, please contact the church office.

Dates: Sundays, March 9-April 13
Time: 8:45-9:45 am
Location: Downstairs classroom

Wednesday Lent Bible Study with Sedgefield UMC

Dive deep into the Book of Luke alongside our friends from Sedgefield UMC! Each Wendesday we will enjoy lunch (bring your own) and fellowship as we deepen our understanding of the story of Jesus by reading Luke for Everyone. Biblical scholar N. T. Wright has written this accessible translation and commentary to help us better understand Luke, an educated historian, and the historical world in which he was writing. Situating Jesus at the crossroads of the Jewish and Roman worlds of the first century, Luke’s meticulous approach, conversation with key figures and examination of prior texts provide readers with the truth about Jesus.

Books may be ordered through the church office or your favorite bookstore.

Dates: Wednesdays, March 12-April 9
Time: 12:00 pm
Location: Sedgefield (March 12, March 26, and April 9) and WCF (March 19 and April 2)

Craft Group

Calling all crafters! Bring your own handiwork to work on while engaging the felllowship. Led by Ann Davis, the craft group meets downstairs on Thursdays from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm.

Silent Retreat

Encounter God in community, yet alone, surrounded by the beauty of nature and the healing rhythm of sacred quiet at Starrette Farm in Statesville. During their Quiet Space Fridays, enter into a haven of silence where you can rest, based on the pattern of Jesus, who frequently withdrew to a quiet place to nourish his spirit. A silent retreat provides a gentle, restorative day so you can rest, hear from God, and return refreshed by the Spirit.
